NSF IGERT 2007 Summer Undergraduate Research Program

The Rice University NSF IGERT in Nanophotonics has five openings available for under represented minorities in a 10-week summer internship.   The program offers excellent multi-disciplinary training in the area of Nanophotonics.  The goal of internship is to introduce students to inter-disciplinary research in science and engineering.  The program provides an excellent introduction to the graduate school environment as well as prepares students to participate in high-tech collaborations in industry.  The internship will begin on Monday, June 4 and conclude on Friday, August 11, 2007.

Research areas include:

Design/simulation/modeling of nanophotonics components, devices and systems fabrication
Methods for nanophotonic components, devices and systems
Fundamentals of nanoscale optics
Applications of nanophotonics, including biomedical applications

Selected candidates will work on research in laboratories in the departments of Electrical and Computer Engineering, Physics, Chemistry, or Bioengineering.

Financial Support

A stipend of $330 per week is provided. In addition, housing costs (up to $1200.00) at the Rice University Graduate Apartments is supplemented by the program.  Travel expenses, up to $600.00, is also provided, if needed.
